Hey NMTA I'm a local from Albuquerque, I've been riding dirt bikes and atvs since I can remeber. My current bike is a yz450f, owned since 2007 and motor rebuilt once. It's my go to bike for everything. With new adventures in mind I purchased a Montesa 315r with little knowledge of the bike or how trials really worked, but with hope it'll improve my skill level and open doors to a new sport. It seemed this bike had sat for quite sometime (by the looks of all the dirt, oil build up and flat tires) the owner had no knowledge about it other than it was his uncles that has passed away. I checked the vin, made sure the motor turned over, it had spark and compression was good. So with that in mind I brought home and cleaned it all up, I cleaned the carb changed all fluids. After a couple kicks it fired up, broke the clutches loose and now it was rideable. Only one issue, the motor seems to have a sometime of noise that increases with engine rpm not so much a knock or ping but a rotating noise like a bearing or clutches (I may have found out why it sat). Once I get some photos posted I was going to see if maybe you guys reconize it or have any info on the bike. It seems like the trials community is in touch with each other very well, I hope to one day get out and learn how to properly ride it. Thank you for looking and any info provided.

Welcome, the bike and the problem does not ring a bell who`s it was or the problem. You may be right about the clutch though, I`ve had several bikes with abnormal clutch whine.

I tore done the top end and found a little play in the wrist pin and slight piston wear. I began to Isolate the noise and I think I've pin pointed it down to the main bearings. Ouch! Started making a list of parts and its not looking to cheap.
