I'm going to open this thread for general news, events, practices, and other tidbits about our playland, San Ysidro.  Please feel free to add.....whatever about the area, the events, past events, past Nationals held there, or anything your little heart desires.

The first post is.....not so good news.  I hope that Channel 4 weatherdunce Steve Stucker is happy.

Because with all the rain out at SanYo this summer, the lower sand part of the road is pretty bad. Worse than I've ever seen it in the paltry 8 years that I have been in the club.

BeefStick warned us about it a few posts ago. He was smart enough to steal the wife's Jeeeeep to go out there today. Good thing.

Grizzz, stuck in the sand -

Then Miss Bitters and I got stuck in her 2wd Tundra. The LSD axle was no help, it just buried both rear tires the same amount in the soft sugar-sand -

How humiliating. A Toyota being pulled out by a Jeeeeep. Hope my friends on Mud don't see this.... [shog]

Yeah, it was carnage. I know there are other pics from today..... [ear]

FYI Jim Mooney and I are meeting with BLM today. Getting them to grade the road is one of our agenda items.

Can anyone confirm that the mystery third lock is still on the gate?

BLM is working on getting the road plowed. No date yet as they need to coordinate it with some other project. It will certainly be done before the next event. Until then if you go to practice be careful. It you have to you can always park off the road at the bottom and ride in.

DO NOT under any circumstance bring in any equipment to fix the road ourselves. The last thing we need is a complication while we are working with BLM on other issues. If you have a friend who may not read these forums who may take it on themselves to bring in a Bobcat or something please reach out to them and make sure they don't.

The gate should have two locks. Ours and one with a key. That third one is illegal and BLM will be removing it. It is the same model as ours but it is not our old one.

Can someone who will be out there this weekend volunteer to bring a sharpy and mark our lock as NMTA?

Maybe we need a good air compressor at the gate. At the Great Sand Dunes you drop the air pressure in the tires down to almost flat, and go. Waiting on the BLM to do the work might require the camping area moved to the wide paved area before the gate.

They said they will fix the road and if it is really a priority they will probably get to it in the 5 or 6 years if they have the funding. BUT if they catch us working on it things could get ugly

We are working on it. No date yet except that they said it would be plowed before the trials. Keep in mind that it is possible if not convenient to park just inside the gate and ride in. I know this would add 3 minutes round trip to each practice ride but sometimes life demands sacrifices.
